Museum Studies Class Field Trip

The Museum Studies class took a trip Thursday, October 23 to both the Columbia Museum of Art and to the South Carolina State Museum, where they received personalized tours of both sites.
Also along were the co-chairs of the newly formed Student Friends of the Stanback Davion L. Petty and Kenneth McClary, the Stanback's Collections Manager Darryl Murphy, CRASH administrator Harriett Hilton and Director Ellen Zisholtz.

Michelle Baker of the SC State Museum provided a behind-the-scenes look at the collections and operations of the facilities, as well as insights on cataloguing and accessions. The class toured the current exhibition Leonardo DaVinci: Machines in Motion, which feature life sized models of DaVinci's inventions, as well as interactive displays.

At the Columbia Museum of Art, Michael Dwyer, Exhibition Designer and Preparator, discussed exhibition design, technique, and gallery flow as we viewed their current exhibition Dale Chihuly: Seaforms, which showcase the breathtaking glass sculpture of artist Dale Chihuly.

Excited and inspired students in attendance were Arka M. Abney, Paul Chisolm, Brittny Cokley, Tarus D. Stills, Jonathan R. Whitfield, Jasmine Crawford, John Johnson and Quenton Atterberry.
